Child Support Awareness Month

The month of August is Child Support Awareness Month in all 50 states of the US. With the belief that children follow their parents example, not their advice, the theme this year is “Give Them Something Great to Imitate.”

Child Support Awareness Month is celebrating parents who are striving to be an excellent example for their children. Being a parent is the hardest job in the world. And as parents we can sometimes forget that our young children are watching us at all times.

DCSS offers a wide range of services to assist both mothers and fathers to be the best parents they can be. Services such as career opportunities, calculating child support, health and human services, health insurance information and many more.

The Department of Children Support Services (DCSS) works with all parents in setting positive examples that can be passed on for generations. In the State of California, DCSS distributed $1.5 billion in collections to 1.2 million California families. Making consistent and reliable child support payments to improve a child’s quality of life is an ideal way to “give them something great to imitate.”

There are also a variety of events that parents can attend, to assist them in being as well-informed as they possibly can. For California residents, you can find a listing of these events at  For parents in other states check your local state government site for more information.

Remember, we are the first teachers to our children so lets “give them something great to imitate.” Ourselves!
